Tricks That Halloween Candy Can Play On Your Teeth

Most people correctly assume that sticky candies can wreak havoc on the teeth with braces. But, did you know they are one of the worst offenders for damaging the teeth of those that are not in braces too? Sticky or chewy candies stay in contact with the tooth surface for a longer amount of time, allowing for more bacteria to grow and produce the acid that eats at the tooth's enamel.

Here are some tips for the candy season!

1. Eat candy that can be consumed quickly.

2. Stay away from sticky candy.

3. Limit eating candies that are sour because they contain acids.

4. Drink a glass of water or brush your teeth after eating candy!

5. Eat before trick-or-treating to prevent over-consumption of candy.

6. Try giving out something other than candy, like mini coloring books or pens.
